3. IT'S ALIVE!!!!
It actually works. Didn't really expect that. They can interact with each other and we even managed to add interaction with bounds. There still are some issues with the bounds but the main simulation is actually functioning. The main problem we encountered was that if the balls move to fast, they will phase through the bound planes before the simulation has a chance to recognize that they should bounce of. We don't really know how to solve this problem yet so for the moment we're ignoring it and hoping that it just goes away.
Next up is fixing this problem, deciding the exact values in the spring force that we use in the bounds. We will also try to spawn balls in the setup instead of adding them by hand before the simulation is run. This would allow us to actually have a decent amount of balls which was kind of the point of this whole thing.
"As I gazed at the colorful balls in the ball pit, my amusement and my curiosity grew with each passing moment. They bounced and jostled against each other, filling the pit with a lively energy. Their roundness and uniformity gave them an appealing appearance. Appealing! But wait! These balls were not as flawless as they seemed. Some were bouncing irregularly, not following any logic or physics. Others were misshapen, their mesh clipping into the bounding plane. The various experiences that the balls had been through were evident in their appearance, just as the feelings of human nature can be shaped by life's different accidents. I had spent hours in this pit, enjoying the playful atmosphere and the freedom to move around, but now that I examined the balls more closely, their imperfections became apparent. Although they had once represented a perfect playground, now they were a reminder of the wear and tear of time. I had desired it with an ardour that far exceeded moderation; but now that I had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart. Unable to bear the thought of the inevitable deterioration of these balls, I left the pit and spent a while contemplating their fleeting nature, unable to shake off the feeling of sadness that enveloped me." - ChatGPT
